The No Cow Start to Vegan Protein Bars

This is what decided to make me start this silly blog. The No Cow Bar. A friend and co-worker of mine came up to me at work one day and asked me if I liked these bars. I had never heard of them so she explained that she had bought a whole box but that they were very gross and she wanted to find someone who she could load them off on. Her glowing review (and offer of a box of free food) couldn't be passed up so I tried one she had on hand.

It was pretty gross, but I liked it. In fact I think it may have been one of my favorite protein bars. I very much like Cliff bars but it has started to register to me how sweet they are and thus incur the same amount of guilt as eating a cookie these days. Sometimes, however rarely, I want a snack that just isn't icing sweet.

No cow bars are certainly not icing sweet. This blueberry cobbler flavor was slightly sweet but I definitely believe them when they say that there is no added sugar.

It tastes like blueberry chalk.

That's a bit unfair. Honestly it tastes a bit like fig newton outsides. Although take that with a grain of salt because I don't much like fig newtons and haven't eaten them in ages. I do like this rather gross bar though. The thick chalky texture is oddly satisfying. It feels filling to the mouth and is kind of fun to bite into and chew. In the same way power bars can be slightly more satisfying then nature valley bars texture wise.

They are also very low calorie (170) and very high protein (21g) so they certainly make a great post workout snack without ruining dinner. I eat them as breakfast.

Long story short, you probably wont like them but I love them so maybe give one a go? DO NOT buy a whole box without tasting one first.

How did this kick off this blog? I went to the store to get more (hopefully in not blueberry) and couldn't find any, so I bought a whole variety of bars to try to see which I liked best. However judging by my failure at taste experimenting with vegan jerky I know I'll forget how I feel about them a few days after I try them. So now I'm going to write them down here for all to see. Then go back and re-taste test all of those jerkies.

edit: I decided to add nutrition facts to my posts so that you can judge things based on your own priorities. Also then I don't have to go and re-look stuff up later.
